Packaging safety & compliance

Safe, legal and sustainable solutions.

Through our parent company Coveris, we ensure our packaging conforms to the highest standards of food safety and compliance, giving you total quality assurance across the supply-chain. Providing trusted expertise on packaging compliance and legislation, we work with all key industry organisations to deliver products that are safe, legal and designed for circularity.

Safe packaging

The basis of all direct food contact regulations across the globe is to ensure that the packaging does not transfer their constituents to food in quantities which could:

  • Endanger human health
  • Bring about an unacceptable change in the composition of the food
  • Bring about a change in the smell and taste of the food being packaged (organoleptic characteristics)

This is done by issuing positive lists of materials that can be used to make up a food packaging item, with rules for the purity of those materials, and rules for migration testing/calculations to ensure that these rules and associated migration levels are met.

As part of this, the Coveris Group sites supplying articles and items for food contact all have external certification to an accredited Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked standard.
